Mechanical Restraint Confounder Risk Alliance (MR‑CRAS) — a tool designed to reduce the duration of mechanical restraint in psychiatry.

MR‑CRAS is a new, clinically and construct‑validated structured short‑term risk assessment instrument called Mechanical Restraint–Confounders, Risk, Alliance Score (MR-CRAS). The purpose is to support the clinician’s observation and assessment of the patient’s readiness to be released from mechanical restraint.

MR‑CRAS is currently undergoing further development so that the individual elements can be linked to strategies for managing conflict and risk, which clinicians can use to support decisions about ending mechanical restraint. The current version does not include such strategies and has therefore not been effectiveness‑tested regarding its ability to reduce the time patients spend in mechanical restraint.
